Local Lifestyle

Falmouth’s lucky locals enjoy Cape Cod’s coastal lifestyle year-round. Martha’s Vineyard, stunning beaches, and native wildlife can all be found nearby local houses owned by residents across Falmouth. Just off the Cape, both Boston and Providence are a relatively short distance away, making both road trips and flights simple. Falmouth also is home to several smaller inns; the largest hotel is the Sea Crest Beach Hotel, great for poolside weekends, cocktail service on the beach, and water sports. On a more regular basis, locals can be seen at one of the several locally-owned restaurants, shops, or other businesses situated on Main Street.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

In Cape Cod’s busy season, Falmouth is a buzzy community where options for shopping, dining, and recreation are plentiful. Local flavors are enjoyed in the company of good neighbors, quaint boutiques line the streets, and carefully curated collections of goods await in Cape Cod’s most vibrant villages.

Upscale American favorites with modern additions are celebrated at C Salt Wine Bar & Grille. The product of an award-winning chef with years spent in authentic European kitchens, C Salt has established a consistent reputation in Falmouth for their swordfish chop, filet mignon, and tuna tartare, all of which are almost always followed by mason jar s'mores.

Another excellent spot to enjoy fine dining on the sea is Water Street Kitchen. A rustic, inviting dining space allows guests to gaze into the open kitchen while enjoying cioppino, lobster bao, pork belly confit, and other modern takes on New England’s most comforting dishes.

Falmouth also boasts its fair share of excellent boutiques when a bit of retail therapy is in order. Maxwell & Co, located on Main Street, has brought fashions for both men and women to Cape Cod since 1984. Just down the street, story. is a women’s boutique carrying a carefully selected array of contemporary accessories and wardrobe staples, influenced by the urban style of the 21st century.

Things to Do

During Cape Cod‘s exciting summer season, Falmouth hosts several festivals, like Arts Alive. Every June, Arts Alive is held on the Falmouth Library lawn for patrons to enjoy live music and shop for handmade jewelry or other decorative crafts. A similar event takes place at the Falmouth Village Street Fair. This arts and crafts fair stretches far down Main Street, where participants wander among the tents and seek out unique creations from New England’s most talented creators.

The Falmouth Road Race is one of the community’s most highly anticipated events every year. The Falmouth Road Race has taken place every August since 1973. Over the years, this 7.1-mile race has become a prestigious one, bringing in over 10,000 recreational, professional, and Olympic-level runners. Another community fixture, the Falmouth Fireworks Display, takes place at Falmouth Heights Beach every Fourth of July. The fireworks are set off from a barge offshore in Vineyard Sound.

Also on the Sound, Woods Hole, formerly a whaling station, is renowned for its scientific community. The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL, affiliated with the University of Chicago) are among the several organizations comprising large-scale science for such a confined area. Tours of WHOI are free and reservations are recommended.

For a nautical excursion, take a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. The Island Queen Ferry lets you park close to the dock; on the 35-minute ferry ride, the crew serves chowder and cocktails. The outside decks are recommended in good weather. The Edgartown Ferry and Steamship Authority also operate ferries to Martha’s Vineyard.
