Beyond the Portrait: Seth & Sally Nye
Friday, May 3rd | 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM | Nye Museum, East Sandwich

Join Nye Museum Curator, Marge Donley, as she explores the history of Seth and Sally Nye, the subjects in two of the most prominent oil paintings in the Nye Homestead Collection. Donley will also talk about the journey of these portraits and the exciting town-wide campaign that brought them back to Sandwich in 2006.

Seth Freeman Nye was an important Sandwich figure both in law and business and subsequently was one of the richest men in town during the mid-19th century. His Federal-style law office was on the corner of Grove Street and Main Street overlooking the old Sandwich Town Hall where it still stands today. He was very generous with his wealth and was once featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not for having said that no lawyer could justify a fee of $10.00.

Learn more about Seth and Sally Nye and why these portraits are such a significant part of Sandwich history.

Registration is required and can be completed online at www.nyemuseum.org/events or by calling 508-888-4213. Registration is $5 and can be paid in advance online or at the door.
